Lanzhou's ecological restoration project for abandoned mines in the Yellow River Key Ecological Zone has been selected for China's 2025 national demonstration program, as announced by the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Natural Resources.

With a total investment of 527 million yuan ($73.3 million), the project will restore 1,622.19 hectares of degraded land across six districts and counties in Lanzhou, addressing 505 historical mining sites through comprehensive measures including geological hazard control, terrain reshaping, soil improvement and vegetation restoration.

This environmental program is expected to significantly enhance water conservation capacity in the upper Yellow River basin while improving regional biodiversity and ecosystem stability on the Loess Plateau.

Local authorities are currently finalizing preparatory work to ensure the timely and high-quality implementation of this critical ecological restoration effort.
