The marathon is also integrated into a wider urban development strategy combining sports, tourism, and commerce. The month-long Lanzhou Marathon Sports Carnival featured cultural performances, sports markets, and tourism promotions. Runners were also offered discounts and free entry to select attractions across the city.

The marathon has evolved beyond a sporting competition into a platform for cultural exchange and city branding. The 42.195-kilometer course connects riverside landscapes with historical sites, presenting Lanzhou as an open and energetic city shaped by both tradition and modern growth.
