The fifth Silk Road (Dunhuang) International Cultural Expo and the 10th Dunhuang Tour-Silk Road International Tourism Festival will open in Dunhuang, northwest China's Gansu province, on Sept 24, 2021.

Officials and representatives from several countries, including South Korea and Belarus, as well as the United Nations World Tourism Organization, World Bank, and the UNESCO Office in Beijing, will attend and address the opening ceremony online.

The main event will last 3 days, with other activities being held in different cities and prefectures in the province from August to October.

Cultural and tourism events will play an important role in driving the overall coordinated development of Dunhuang in the areas of urban construction, culture and industrial development.

The events are expected to help build Dunhuang's brand and expand its influence. In addition, they will stimulate local vitality and the endogenous power of local economic development.

During the expo, art performances such as the folk opera Xuanzang's Pilgrimage and the "Meeting in Dunhuang" gala will be staged.
