The second horse-racing festival was held from Aug 8 to 10 at Mingma Manor in Liqiao township, Shandan county, Zhangye, Gansu province. Twelve teams from across the country gathered at the foot of the Qilian Mountains, presenting a thrilling feast of equestrian culture.

The opening ceremony showcased a range of impressive performances, including barrel racing, horseback archery, and show jumping. The seamless coordination between horse and rider captivated the audience, drawing continuous applause and cheers.

The event commenced with the 2026 China Horseback Archery Tour, Shandan Station, and a 2,000-meter speed race. The tour served as a major highlight, attracting top competitors from across the nation. It combines skill-based competition with cultural exchange through its points system.

Compared to last year's festival, the latest edition is larger, with more participants and a richer roster of activities, enhancing its appeal and engagement. It blends sports and ethnic art, serving as a vital platform for promoting traditional horse culture, expanding the equine industry, and enriching tourism resources.

Liu Jiguo, deputy head of Liqiao township, said the festival has increased the region's popularity. It has also brought tangible development opportunities, driving growth in dining, accommodation, and rural tourism, allowing locals to benefit directly from the tourism industry.
