Lanzhou Taiping Drum: A cultural legacy across generations

The Taiping Drum of Lanzhou, Gansu province, has a 600-year history. Its rhythms echo through festivals, temple fairs, and shehuo parades (a traditional folk custom activity), making it the region's most enduring "hometown sound".

In Jiangjiaying village, Yuzhong county, three generations have devoted themselves to preserving and passing down this profound rural melody. Their dedication has kept Lanzhou Taiping Drum alive — a bridge connecting the past with the present, and a testament to the enduring spirit of the people of Gansu.

  • China and Kyrgyzstan will jointly formulate regional standards for cultural heritage conservation and carry out three to five demonstration projects in Kyrgyzstan over the next two years under a newly established joint laboratory, according to a meeting held in Lanzhou, Gansu province, on March 21.
