Discover Gansu's vibrant celebrations this May Day holiday

With the May Day holiday fast approaching, Gansu province has prepared a variety of activities across the region.
Wuwei has planned 287 events spanning five categories. The 2026 cultural performance season alongside intangible cultural heritage showcases in scenic spots will bring traditional crafts and performances directly to the public. Museums and cultural venues offer family-friendly activities such as kite-themed events and Han culture experiences, blending education with entertainment.
Scenic areas in Wuwei will enhance visitor engagement by combining local cuisine, traditional crafts, and unique landscapes. Online events using digital technology will provide virtual tours of Wuwei to people unable to visit the city in person.
Lanzhou will host over 200 activities catering to all ages. Highlights include a garment exhibition at the Gansu Jiandu Museum, folk art performances at Jinchengguan scenic area, and immersive experiences in Lanzhou Old Street. Classic dance dramas and opera performances will be staged throughout the holiday.
In Longnan, visitors can explore natural beauty and cultural heritage with activities like nature walks in Yuhe National Nature Reserve and interacting with golden monkeys at Baishagou Golden Monkey Base. Other attractions include the rapeseed fields in Tianshui's Wushan county, Mogao Caves in Dunhuang, sunrise at Mingsha Mountain, and the vibrant colors of Danxia Landform in Zhangye.
